AAMR--American Association on Mental Retardation
ADA--Americans with Disabilities Act
APS --Adult Protective Services--a cooperative program with local prosecutors that protects aged or disabled persons from abuse, neglect or exploitation.
Assistive Technology Device --Assistive technology device means any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a person with a disability.
Attendant Care --Non-medical, in-home personal care, housekeeping and other services provided to individuals with a physical disability who cannot perform daily living tasks by themselves.
Autism --Autism means a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communications and social interaction, generally evident before age three (3), that adversely affects a child's educational performance. Other characteristics often associated with autism are engagement in repetitive activities and stereotyped movements, resistance to environmental change or change in daily routines, and unusual responses to sensory experiences.
