Navigating North Carolina’s developmental disabilities (DD) service delivery system can be difficult at best. It’s not that there’s not information about how to do it. The problem is that there are an overwhelming number of official documents from a variety of sources.
How The System Works is a guide on how to obtain developmental disability services in North Carolina, all in one place. You will find information about eligibility and how to obtain services. Special recommendations and tips are in italics.
Individuals and families who are either trying to receive DD services or are already receiving them provided words of wisdom in Questions to Ask Providers and How to Influence the System. Their tips can be invaluable as you move through the system.
How to Complain contains the grievance processes that are in use for developmental disabilities services in North Carolina.
Use Know the System as a resource as you work to get the supports and services that you or your family member need to lead a full, productive life.
