KATRINA SPECIAL NEEDS RELIEF

Hurricane Katrina Special Needs Relief

Go to the Katrina Special Needs Assistance Page

In the wake of this massive and disastrous storm are hundreds or thousands of people with special needs and their families with no home, no job and no place to go. We have created a central online clearinghouse so family members, case managers, service coordinators or advocates can also list people or families who need support.

People from anywhere in the country can use the site to offer housing and supports, employment, and other assistance.

So if you know of hurricane survivors in Alabama, Louisiana or Mississippi with special needs and/or families who need immediate services and supports, please list them here. We are assuming that case managers, service coordinators, state officials and other advocates will be the primary users of the site, but it is open for use by anyone.

If you know of family members who need temporary or permanent jobs and want to relocate, you can list them here or they can list themselves.

If you are an employer and have job opportunities please list them here. Maybe you’re a disability services organization or other human services agency that needs employees, or perhaps you’re just a regular employer who needs people and wants to help.

Perhaps you know of people who could host a family or offer short or long term use of a home. Maybe your service organization has supported living or group home vacancies and related day services opportunities. You can list those opportunities on this site. Reimbursement by Medicaid or state funds may or may not be immediately available.

There are many people who can offer their personal services to assist in the transition of people into new locations and services, or to contribute other volunteer time, either in person or via telephone. In some cases reimbursement may be available, and in those cases payment delays may or may not occur. You can list those opportunities on this site.

Use this page to list persons with special needs (and their family members) who are Katrina survivors in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi and are in critical need of specialized emergency placement.

State and local organizations can also use this page for any announcements related to hurricane assistance for people with special needs.

If you want to provide funds, services and supports for anyone else, contact the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army.

This page is a free public service of TheArcLink Incorporated and The Arc of Louisiana.
